GOODWICK United made a winning return to action in the Manderwood Pembrokeshire League division one as they registered a solid 4-0 win over Neyland to consolidate a top three spot.
There was a brace apiece for Tony Evans and Jonny Horgan as the Phoenix lads notched their 13th league win of the season, to move within three points of Hakin United and Merlins Bridge.
Goodwick have played two more games than Hakin, who they travel to play this weekend in what could prove to be a crucial showdown.
Last weekend, Hakin had to settle for a 1-1 draw away against Pennar Robins at Bush Camp, with Jason Donohoe netting for the homesters, whilst James Stanmore was on target for The Vikings.
The result, however, was enough for Hakin to move to the top of the division one table, on same points as Merlins Bridge, with superior goal difference and a game in hand over The Wizards.
The adverse weather conditions once again disrupted the fixture schedule last weekend, with just three of the six division one games played.
Milford United were beaten 3-0 at home against Lamphey at Marble Hall, the Stags’ goal scorers being Josh Sture, Josh Dearsley and Ben Phillips.
Carew’s match against Angle; Merlins Bridge’s game with Tenby, and Narberth versus Monkton Swifts were all postponed due to the weather.
The West Wales FA Intermediate Cup tie between CRC Rangers and West Dragons was also postponed, and has been rescheduled to go ahead on Saturday, 11 March, weather permitting.
In division two action, Hundleton breezed to an emphatic 8-0 win over Goodwick United Seconds, who remain well adrift at the bottom.
Craig Manning led the way with a hat-trick, whilst Aaron Goldsmith weighed in with a brace, and Dylan Davies, Ryan Davies and Mark Edwards also netted for the dominant home team.
Solva succumbed to a 6-2 defeat at home to Herbrandston, who lifted themselves above Fishguard Sports into second position in the table.
Sam Thomas and Max Fulthorpe netted for the hosts, but a hat-trick from Shane Walsh, two goals from Scott Reid and a Marc Jones goal earned the visitors their 12th league win of the season.
Fishguard Sports’ crucial top of the table encounter against Clarbeston Road was one of five games called off in division two last weekend.
