Goodwick take point at Hakin

By County Echo Reporter in Football

GOODWICK United picked up a useful away point at high-flying Hakin United in the Manderwood Pembrokeshire League division one as the home side lost pole position in the title chase.

In a titanic tussle, Tony Evans gave the Phoenix Lads the lead, but Hakin hit back when Ryan Wilson struck late to secure a point for the Vikings.

Merlins Bridge took their chance to climb to the top of the table by beating Milford United 5-1.

Talented teenager Will Haworth claimed a superb hat-trick, alongside goals by team-mates Steve McNabney and Joe Leahy. The Robins’ scorer was Ashley Mathias, from the penalty spot.

Angle comfortably won 3-0 at home against Tenby, with all the goals being scored in the first period, courtesy of a brace from Chris Richards alongside a solitary strike from James Potter.

Phil Thompson scored five goals as Pennar Robins hammered bottom of the table Johnston 9-2.

Craig Asparassa also scored twice for the hosts, along with goals by Carl Rees and Sean Meaney, whilst Ryan Doyle and Ryan Codd replied.

Monkton Swifts versus Carew was postponed.

In the Manderwood division two, Goodwick United Seconds succumbed to a 4-0 defeat at home to Prendergast Villa, where two goals from Joey George and singles by Lucas George and Michael Atyeo earned the visitors the three points.

Fishgaurd Sports’ hopes of closing the gap on second-placed Herbrandston ended with a 4-1 defeat as a well-taken hat-trick from Shane Walsh and a Marc Gelona goal earned the home side the points, despite Patrick Hughes netting a reply.

Leaders Clarbeston Road showed no signs of slipping up as they hammered Lawrenny 8-3.

Jason Griffiths led the way with a hat-trick, along with further goals from Tom Glover, Matthew Ellis and Richard Bevan, with a brace.

The visitors replied with two goals from Matthew Kidney and a single strike by Tom Lewis.

Letterston lost 6-0 at home to Saundersfoot Sports, with Jake Webster scoring four goals frok the visitors, along with a brace by Richard Cope.

Second half goals from Dan Bryce and Ashley Prior sealed Second Division Cup glory for Merlins Bridge Seconds as they beat Hundleton 2-0 at the Conygar Bridge Meadow Stadium on Friday.

It was Hundleton who created the better chances on the night - but they were made to pay for a lack of a clinical finish when on 68 minutes, Bryce struck a wonderful free kick from 30 yards out that curled over goalkeeper Brandon Fienhage.

The outcome was not decided until seven minutes left, when substitute Prior went through on goal and struck a left foot shot into the far corner.
