Llechryd make a winning return

By County Echo Reporter in Cricket

LLECHRYD marked their return to the Pembrokeshire Cricket League Division Two with a big 93-run win over Carew Seconds as they amassed a useful 171-6 after being put in to bat first, and then bowled out the opposition for only 77 runs.

Llechryd started well with Steve Smith (45) and Johnny Lewis (41) helping them to a promising total, assisted by Ollie Roberts (18), with Dai Rees (4 wickets for 40), Kerry Waters (1 wicket for 34) and Harry Cook the Carew wicket-takers as the home side used all their allotted 45 overs.

When Carew batted they toiled against Welsh over 60s pace man Peter Betterley (4 wickets for 17 in 12 overs), Graham Keen (1 for 23), Johnny Lewis (2 for 24) and Leighton O’Connor, who marked his club debut with a 3 for 12 haul.

Only Rees (with a gritty 49 not out) and Finn Bowie (10) managed double figures as the rest of their line-up struggled against tight bowling.
