THE July meeting of Jampoeth WI took place on Thursday, 6 July, when members met outside the town hall.
Edward Perkins was this month’s speaker and took the group for a history-themed walk through town.
Having covered pre-history of the area, they moved on to Hermon Chapel where they were met by John Morris.
Having heard of the history of this beautiful chapel, and looked around both the chapel and vestry, where they saw fascinating old photos as well as a rather ancient map, they moved on to Lota Park, learning much of the family who’s fortune made in rope making enabled them to buy the land and donate it to the town.
Finally, the Eisteddfod stones, at Penslade and the Herring Fishing History of Lower Fishguard. They are most grateful to Mr Perkins and Mr Morris for their time and sharing their knowledge.
There will be no meeting in August, members will spend a day out together, usual meeting times will resume in September.
This week’s County Echo is out in shops now.
