THE STEM Racing Club ‘Rasio Aberteifi Tigers,’ from Ysgol Uwchradd Aberteifi, returned to action this season at the Anglesey motor circuit at the Greenpower Anglesey heat during July.

Some 25 cars were on the grid, including car number one, the current overall international champion.

Project X, the Aberteifi Tigers’ car, managed a credible fourth position in the first race, and then a superb first place in the second.

This was an excellent performance by the new team, which is made up of Year 8 and 9 pupils from Aberteifi.

As a result of this excellent performance, the team has automatically qualified for the international final in Rockingham in October.

Before then, the team will race again in Castle Combe in September, when they will try to hone their driving and racing skills, and see if they can improve their distance covered during the one and a half hour race.

The teamwork and good preparation has certainy paid dividends in ensuring a great result for the new team and Ysgol Aberteifi.

Emyr James, Head of Design Faculty at Ysgol Uwchradd Aberteifi, said: “Up until now, since the creation of the STEM racing club some eight years ago, some 82 pupils have benefitted from being part of the Rasio Aberteifi Tigers Club.

“Having raced at Silverstone, Goodwood and Castle Combe, to name but a few, the teamwork experienced by the pupils by being part of the club will hopefully remain with them for the rest of their lives.

“Once the pupils reach Year 10, the younger pupils are requested to apply to become members of the team.

“A huge thank you goes out to everybody who has helped in any way with the team or sponsored them.

“The Rasio Aberteifi Tigers team really looked the part after new race suits had been provided by TI Davies a’i Fab Builders, and also sponsorship by the Hiut Denim Co. Ysgol Aberteifi is also very grateful for any sponsorship for this very worthwhile STEM activity.”
