FISHGUARD Round Table held their second annual Soapbox Derby at Penbanc alongside Lota Park on Saturday.

This year 11 different entries included Leek Lightning which had previously entered the global Red Bull Soapbox Derby competition.

Following a busy morning in which Round Tablers set up the track the event kicked off at noon sunny weather as the crowds flocked to watch the action.

Entrants all had a warm-up run followed by three timed runs and a final run for the crowd to cheer their best design with background music provided by Nick Cleary.

Speed monitoring was provided by Fishguard PCSO Eirian Thomas and Haverfordwest PCSO Trish Dixon with the fastest speed recorded - 25mph - within the speed limit for Penbanc.

The course provided plenty of excitement for the crowd with plenty of high jumps and crashes.

The trophy presentations, sponsored by A and E Nichols and spectacularly designed by Eifion Thomas, the Dinas ironmonger, were presented by Fishguard deputy-mayor Cllr Jordan Ryan.

Fastest Soapbox: 1, Braaan Pearl - Fishguard Round Table pirate ship 16.40sec; 2, Flying Fryers 17.31; 3, Masher 18.25.

Best design: Drifting Dragons.

Derby Disaster: Phantom Flyer.

Slow and Steady: Pub drive Motor Sport.

This week’s County Echo is out in shops now.
